Duties and Responsibilities.
- Provide input on the review of the Group Employee Relations and Communications policy in line with business strategy and the Labour Act as well as related Statutory Instruments.
- Offer professional guidance on Industrial Relations matters to Line Management and staff & timeously offer solutions on IR challenges, queries or enquiries including proper interpretation, application & compliance with labour law statutes.
- Maintain an up to date register of disciplinary and litigation cases and liaise with external Labour Lawyers and the Group’s Legal Services Division to ensure that the Group’s interests in Labour matters are well represented at external fora such as the Labour Court, Ministry of Labour, NECs etc.
- Oversee and guide all forms of termination of employment contracts to ensure compliance with applicable regulations i.e. dismissals; retrenchments; resignations; retirements – normal, early and ill health
- Coordinate the formation of Workers’ Committee Structures across the Group and ensure that the structures remain functional.
- Design training programmes and ensure training of line managers and staff on employee relations matters including code of conduct and conditions of service issues.
- Develop the frameworks for the conduct of the Group Subsidiary Works Council meetings.
- Undertake employee counselling on IR related matters.
- Coordinate HR relationship building activities through visits to Branches/Departments in order to render timeous HR support to Business.
- Assist the Divisional Director HR with undertaking or coordinating employee engagement initiatives e.g. employee engagement/experience surveys.
- Periodically attend business meetings conducted by Branches/Units and guide them on or clarify HR issues requiring attention.
- Assist Line Management in coming up with sound decisions, effective managerial controls & cost effective procedures in their day to day management of human resources and employee relations.
- Nurture relations with Group Labour Lawyers, Ministry of Labour Officials, NEC Officials and Trade Union Officials to enable a common understanding on the management of employment relations issues.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Social Science Degree
- Diploma in Labour Law and Arbitration is a must.
- Relevant Masters Degree is an added advantage
