Supervise and evaluate the design, specifications and execution of various projects.
Evaluate construction projects and determine the best engineering method or practice to accomplish the job.
Monitor cost, tools and technologies appropriate for the job as well as a timeframe for the work to be completed.
Supervising construction staff
Ensure staff are properly trained in the use of all equipment, that all staff have access to and use any safety gear.
Ensure the team and contractors are reaching the required milestones. Evaluate problem areas and provide the appropriate solutions.
Managing, monitoring and interpreting the contract design documents supplied by the client or architect.
Review contractor work performance, project status and making recommendations.
Make sure projects adhere to all government and industry standards and guidelines.
Ensure the paperwork is recorded and stored properly.
Ensure work is performed as per plan and specifications.
Allocates work to subordinates as per plan
Organises and coordinates resources to be used by subordinates
Motivates employees to perform and achieve the set targets
Communicates required standards and general information required by the employees
Coaches and mentors subordinates for effective delivery of results
Supports employees to deliver through identification of training needs, counselling and delegation of responsibilities.
Ensures harmonious working relationships within the section and across the departments through effective working relationships with other section heads and Worker leadership.
Measures subordinates’ performance against set targets.
Appraises and give feedback to subordinates.
Maintains discipline in the department
Takes corrective measures where necessary
Ensures that the section adheres to Council policies and procedures
Attends to customer queries and respond appropriately.
Participates in the hiring of new employees for the section
Compiles reports as instructed
Compiles draft section budget.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
A Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
The ideal candidate must have a Civil Engineering background with experience in project supervision and contracts management.
A minimum of ten (10) years post qualification experience.
A qualified and registered Engineer who is affiliated to a professional body.
A mature individual who demonstrates ability to manage the interface between the Client, contractors, suppliers, regulatory agencies and other key stakeholders in the project.
