Main Duties:

  • Maintains laboratory equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Monitors and ensures laboratory productivity by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustment.
  • Maintains quality results by participating in the quality assurance program; reviewing quality control and quality assurance programs; making adjustments in procedures; generating reports; maintaining records. Ensures the implementation of the ISO17025 management system in laboratory activities.
  • Identification and management of risks to laboratory processes.
  • Ensuring that safety standards and practices are enforced.
  • Implements new programs, tests, methods, instrumentation, and procedures by investigating alternatives; preparing proposals;
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection and induction of laboratory staff
  • Fulfills all operational requirements by scheduling and assigning duties employees and following up on work results.
  • Maintains laboratory staff results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results and training.
  • Prepares annual laboratory budget, investigates and explains variances in expenditure against approved budget and takes corrective action.
  • Ensures services provided by the Laboratory are correctly charged out where necessary
  • Resolves problems by consulting with relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • BSc Honours degree in Microbiology, biological sciences or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • ISO17025 Development and Implementation.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Laboratory environment and 2 years of which must be at Supervisory/Management level
  • Knowledge of testing protocols in Microbiology, Serology, and Molecular biology
